I had a chance to play in the Diablo III open beta recently, and I noticed one small issue with the graphics. Namely that the lighting style they chose makes the whole world seem very flat, especially when you stand still. This is an issue that effected the game Resident Evil 4 when it was ported to the PC in that the lighting wasn't as advanced as it was on the Gamecube, and so there was zero depth perception cues. Thinking about this, I remembered that I game on an iZ3D gaming monitor, which is basically a 3D capable monitor that can run PC games in true 3d when combined with polarized glasses. I haven't been using the 3d feature for a while, but the fact that Diablo III looked so flat, made me redownload the 3d drivers and see how the game would look with actual real 3D, as that would completely solve the flatness problem better than even Blizzard could hope.

To my surprise, Diablo III is 100% fully optimized for use with 3D capable monitors/equipment. The last game I knew of that did this was Avatar : The Game, but apparently Blizzard spared no expense with the development of D3. Not only does the game work perfectly in 3D (except shadows which is a directx/stencil buffer issue, and can be disabled), where menu's don't double and ghosting is near non-existant but it takes an already beautiful looking game, and makes it OUTSTANDING! You've all seen the meme with the stick figure in front of the PC, rainbows glowing around the monitor and spilling out of the guys mouth? With 3D enabled, you can multiply that by 3. It simply looks AMAZING and incredibly REAL.

A few months ago I developed a system where I can take any game that runs on DirectX, and create 3D screen shots that can be seen on the 3DS itself. I now use this same technique to bring you some Diablo III 3D enabled 3DS screen shots!
